No matter if you’re shopping for your very first home or if you are well-experienced in the homebuying process, odds are everyone will agree that the master suite is always one of those components people pay particularly-close attention to! While we highlighted some of the various qualities behind a bathroom faucet purchase last week, this week we’re going to follow a similar approach (just on a slightly larger scale). In this week’s blog post, we’re going to take a look at some of the important qualities that help make up the perfect master bathroom!

For those that may be stopping by our blog for the first time, welcome to Stine-Nichols Plumbing! We are a plumbing company based out of North Kansas City, MO that offers residential, commercial and new construction plumbing services throughout the Kansas City area. As such, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that our blog is focused on a number of different plumbing topics. From tips for finding a reliable local plumber to advice on maintaining your plumbing system and more, you can likely find a wide range of plumbing topics on our blog! As referenced above, this week’s post will take a look at a few things you’ll want to consider in an effort to essentially design your dream master bathroom!

Stunning Plumbing Fixtures

Okay, we might be a little biased, but you can’t have a complete master bathroom without top-notch plumbing fixtures, right? As we’ve mentioned before on numerous prior blog posts, there are so many amazing fixture brands out there that you truly will enjoy the shopping experience. Moen, Delta, Kohler, American Standard, the list goes on! The showerhead and shower trim are a great starting point, as you can pick between the always-popular hand-held showerheads, regular fixed options, rainfall ones and plenty more!

What other fixtures will you be shopping for other than the shower components? How about the toilet? For most homeowners, a standard toilet will easily suffice in the master bathroom. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other alternatives available either! If you haven’t seen or used a smart toilet before, these will certainly change how you view the possibilities with toilets nowadays! Granted they do come at a much higher price tag, but there’s no denying that they are pretty cool!

Next on our list of bathroom plumbing fixtures are the faucets. Given that we just discussed these in-detail on last week’s blog, I won’t spend a ton of time going over them here. You’re welcome to check out that previous blog post HERE. For this week’s blog though, the one key point I’ll highlight in regards to faucets is to make sure they seamlessly match with your other bathroom elements. A major factor in making this happen will be to carefully evaluate the different faucet finishes. Chrome and matte black are a couple of popular finishes worth considering!

All in all, the reason I mention plumbing fixtures first is not only because this is a plumbing blog, but also because it’s an easy renovation project you can knock out that’s also capable of making a significant difference on the look of the room!

Tub or Shower?

Our next point will largely be dependent on the amount of space you have available in the master bathroom, but is still a discussion that’s definitely relevant to this blog topic! You’ll essentially be deciding between having a shower/tub combination or having a separate shower AND bathtub. Again, if the square footage in the master bathroom is relatively limited, this may not even be a question. However, since this blog is about designing your dream master bathroom, can we take a minute to acknowledge how awesome freestanding bathtubs are? Trust us, they are definitely one of those bathroom components that’s instantly capable of serving as a statement piece in the room! Plus, as is the case with several other plumbing fixtures, you also have the flexibility of having various sizes and styles to pick from. If you’re unsure of whether or not a freestanding tub can easily be installed in your bathroom, don’t hesitate to give us a call at (816) 348-3481. We would be more than happy to come by and take a look! When there’s enough space to allow for a freestanding bathtub, it’s certainly a component worth considering.

Light Fixtures

Now that we’ve discussed a few plumbing-related features of a master bathroom, it’s time to take a look at some other various elements that you’ll want to keep in mind! With that being said, I think we can all agree that light fixtures can make a big difference on their own. Vanity lighting is obviously a popular starting point, as you can make these work with both a single vanity and a double vanity. In addition, as has been a common theme throughout, there are also several styles you can pick from. This makes it nice for those homeowners who have a specific aesthetic in mind for their master bathroom!

If you’re struggling to come up with lighting ideas, don’t hesitate to use the internet as a resource. Who knows, you might find something that really catches your eye! Whether that be recessed lighting, chandeliers or any other lighting types, there really are plenty of possibilities.

Tile. Tile. Tile.

The final topic we will discuss on this week’s blog is tile! Unsurprisingly, tile tends to be a popular topic of discussion when it comes to bathroom remodeling and renovations. If you’ve ever been tile or granite shopping, you likely know it can seem a little overwhelming just how many options there are. A good rule of thumb is to avoid going with anything too crazy. This is especially true if you could see yourself moving within the next 5 years or so! In terms of picking out tile for your master bathroom, you’ll have a couple of decisions to make.

Where are you putting the tile? Are you planning on putting tile just on the floors or also on the walls? This will likely be one of the first decisions you make in regards to tile, as it will impact the total cost of the project.

What type of tile would you like? As you can likely guess, there are advantages and disadvantages associated with different types of tile. Some are better at withstanding the everyday wear and tear. Some might require more maintenance than others. In the end, it wouldn’t hurt to ask a few questions prior to finalizing your tile selection!

Have you decided on a tile pattern for the installation? Another variable capable of impacting how the final product looks is the pattern in which the tile is installed. This is certainly a decision that will largely depend on personal preferences, but is yet another way to make your master bathroom unique.
